AVATAR

Twelve years after he ruled the world with “Titanic”, Oscar-winning director James Cameron brought his lavish and extraordinary AVATAR to London for its World Premiere, which unspooled simultaneously in both the Empire and the Odeon Leicester Square on December 10.  Treading the extended blue carpet were the stars of the film, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore and Laz Alonso, together with composer James Horner and fellow Oscar-winner, producer Jon Landau.  The array of guests eager for an early glimpse of this much-heralded new fantasy-adventure included world champion boxers Joe Calzaghe and David Haye, actor and comedian Simon Pegg, and singers James Blunt and Sophie Ellis Bextor.

A live action film with a new generation of special effects, AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist.   Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

AVATAR is released by Twentieth Century Fox and will open nationwide and in Ireland on Thursday December 17, 2009.
